How is my Handicap Index calculated?

Each round's Score Differential is calculated from your score, the course rating, and the slope rating. Handicap Tracker then takes the best of your most recent differentials and averages them, following the World Handicap System (WHS) 2024 method, to produce your Handicap Index. It recalculates automatically every time you add a round.

Is this an official handicap?

No. The Handicap Index and Course Handicap shown in Handicap Tracker are unofficial and for your personal tracking only. They are no substitute for an official Handicap Index issued by an authorized golf association, and the app does not post scores to any official handicapping service. Handicap Tracker is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the USGA, The R&A, or the World Handicap System.

Do I need to create an account?

No sign-up, no login, no password. Open the app and start adding courses and rounds right away. Everything you enter stays on your device and syncs across your devices through your own private iCloud.

Can I post 9-hole rounds?

Yes. Post full 18-hole rounds or 9-hole rounds. Nine-hole rounds are combined into 18-hole equivalents using the official expected-score method, so they count the right way toward your index.

Is it really free? Why are there ads?

Yes, it's free. There are no in-app purchases or subscriptions. The app is supported by ads so it can stay free for everyone. In regions that require it you'll see a consent prompt, and iOS asks for your tracking preference; you can change either choice anytime from the app's privacy settings, and nothing in the app is locked behind allowing tracking.

What do I need to run it?

Handicap Tracker is a native app designed for iPhone and requires iOS 26 or later. Optional iCloud sync uses the iCloud account you're already signed in to, with no separate account needed.
