Frequently asked questions
How is my Handicap Index calculated?
Each round's Score Differential comes from your score, the course rating, and the slope rating. Handicap Tracker averages the best of your most recent differentials, following the World Handicap System (WHS) 2024 method, to produce your Handicap Index, recalculated automatically whenever you add a round.
Is this an official handicap?
No. The numbers in Handicap Tracker are unofficial and for personal tracking only. They are no substitute for an official Handicap Index from an authorized golf association, and the app does not post scores to any official handicapping service. Handicap Tracker is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the USGA, The R&A, or the World Handicap System.
How do I add or edit a course?
Open the Courses tab and add a course, then enter its name, course rating, slope rating, and par per nine (you can find these on the course's scorecard or website). A Course Handicap is calculated for each course you save. To change a course later, tap it to edit its details.
How do 9-hole rounds work?
When you post a 9-hole round, it's combined into an 18-hole equivalent using the official expected-score method, so it counts the right way toward your Handicap Index. If you post a 9-hole round before you have an index, it's held and converted automatically once one is available.
Does it sync across my devices?
Yes. If you're signed in to iCloud, your courses and rounds sync automatically across your devices through your own private iCloud. There's no separate account to create. If sync isn't working, check that iCloud Drive is on and that you're signed in with the same Apple Account on each device.
Why do I see ads, and what are the prompts about?
Handicap Tracker is free and supported by ads. In some regions you'll see a consent prompt about personalized ads, and iOS shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt asking whether the app may track you. These are two separate choices, both optional; no feature is locked behind them. You can change either one anytime from the app's privacy / ad settings.
Data & deletion: how do I remove my data?
Handicap Tracker has no account and no developer-run server. Your courses and rounds live on your device and sync only through your own private iCloud, so there's no server-side copy for us to hold or delete. To remove your data:
  • Delete individual rounds or courses inside the app.
  • Delete the app to remove its on-device data.
  • Remove the synced iCloud copy from Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage (or Manage Storage) on your device.
See our Privacy Policy for the full details, including the limited analytics and advertising data handled by Google.
What do I need to run the app?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Handicap Tracker is a native app and is free to download from the App Store.
